On The Other Side of Fear

On The Other Side of Fear

Everything I have ever wanted has always been on the other side of fear!”What I’m I really afraid of?” is the big question I ask myself when it’s time for me to “go get” or do the things I shy away from. And “Where is my self-confidence? ” is another big question. I have come to realize that my self-confidence is the key I use to free myself from the shackles of fear in all shades.

Art has been a great way for me to discover my value and boost my self-confidence. Growing up as a child, I changed my handwriting so frequently and I still do today. I must admit I enjoy doing this except when I’m writing fast (because writing fast makes my writing look ugly…no jokes!

Looking back, I think that it was more than changing my handwriting. As strange as it may seem, I think it was more about defining myself.  I was trying to “find” who I was through my writing. I believe creating Art is no different. When we express ourselves through the marks that we make, they are personal. They are unique. They are ours. They say something about who we are.

And now, relating this to my art on a personal level, it reminds me that my art is a reflection of who I am. My art is bold, my art is beautiful, my art is attractive, my art is unique, my art is loved and my art is valued. This reminds me that as I am the artist, I am nothing different from what I create. It is all my energy and a visual representation of who I am. With these reminders, I am able to see my beautiful self and build my confidence in what I carry from within. “For God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7) I am GRATEFUL for who I AM.
